The Atta Rainforest Camp is situated approximately 500 metres from the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway. The camp is completely surrounded by tropical rainforest which offers a complete immersion in the rainforest experience.
The main building is open sided with views across the gardens to the forest which is only 25 metres away. This building houses the bar, dining area and kitchen. The Parrot-A-Fly Bar stocks local and imported beer, spirits and wines which can be enjoyed by the bar or in the shade of the gardens. The bar top is made from a huge slab of Wamaradan (Dicorynia guianensis), and it is believed this is the first commercial use of this wood in Guyana. The dining area is adjacent to the bar and encourages communal dining so that you can get to know your fellow adventurers.
Meals are freshly prepared local delicacies of free range beef, chicken and fish. Vegetarian and special diets are catered for with notice. Guyanese cuisine may vary from what you are used to at home, so feel free to pop in the kitchen and see what and how we are preparing the meals. The two accommodation buildings are open sided allowing the breeze to provide natural cooling. Sleeping in a hammock is a fun and comfortable way to spend the night. There are four bathrooms situated between the two accommodation blocks. They have been designed to make the most of the unique location and the showers are open topped to allow you to enjoy the views of the forest canopy. Besides the shower each roomy bathroom is fitted with a flush toilet and wash basin.
Visits to the Canopy Walkway are scheduled during your stay at Atta Rainforest Camp. Normally there is a visit that leaves the camp before dawn so that you can welcome the dawn chorus from the canopy. Then again as the afternoon cools you can return to the walkway to experience night falling and the canopy after dark. Additional visits are available outside these scheduled trips. All visitors to the walkway are accompanied by our Canopy Walkway Specialists. Apart from the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway itself you can enjoy wildlife and birdwatching walks on the trails around the area. For those interested in botany many of the trails have the key trees species marked. Excursions further a field can be arranged with notice, to the Iwokrama Field Station, Rock View Lodge, the community of Surama and a hike to see Guianian Cock-of-the-rock.
